history

The story of Harris Haven began in 1960, when R.C. and Dorothy Harris purchased the original 20 acres of this 40 acre property. Their dream was to create a rural sanctuary for our family to escape to, as well as a peaceful homestead where they could eventually enjoy their retirement.

At the heart of the property stood a two-story cabin dating back to the 1930s. Throughout the early 1960s, our family spent some weekends there embracing a truly rustic lifestyle. We relied on a potbelly stove for warmth, kerosene lamps for light, an outhouse for necessities and a nearby spring for fresh water—all while the weathered remains of an old moonshine still sat tucked away in the nearby woods. By 1980, the original cabin had finally succumbed to time and begun to collapse. After the debris was cleared, a ranch-style house was built on the same site. This is the home where Beth and I (Dave Harris) reside today, carrying on the dream R. C. and Dorothy started decades ago.
Beth and I purchased the remainder of the family land estate in 1998, acquiring the property and the original farm cottage my parents built and once called home. After two decades of managing the cottage as a monthly rental, we decided in 2020 to open it up to travelers as a vacation getaway. By 2025, we added a newly constructed two-story cabin back into the landscape, further establishing Harris Haven as a destination for rest and relaxation. We love seeing new families discover the same serenity that has defined this land since 1960.
